Celebrate National Donut Day
What may come as a surprise to you is just how long National Donut Day has been a thing. It started the first Friday in June of 1938 when some donut loving peeps at the Salvation Army (Chicago) created this holiday as a way to raise funds for the first World War. Unfortunately, nowadays we merely buy donuts on the first Friday of June for our pleasure, but we think it’d be such a cool idea for donations to go back to the Salvation Army.
According to sources like Business Insider and our in-house donut connoisseur and digital marketing guru, Morgan Wagner, these are the best donut shops in America (in no particular order)!
1. Top Pot Doughnuts – Seattle, WA
Make sure you try their old fashioned, it’s Morgan’s all-time-favorite!
2. The Holy Donut – Portland, ME
What we love about this donut is its secret ingredient, Maine potatoes – apparently it adds to the donut’s moist texture. Our mouth is salivating thinking about a Chai Glazed donut!
3. Kane’s Donuts – Saugus, MA
One reason we added this location to our list was because it sources ingredients locally! We also love that every month they roll-out 3 new flavors so your taste buds will never get bored.
4. Sweetwater’s Donut Mill – Kalamazoo, MI
It’s been in business since 1983 and now has two sister stores also open, so you know their donuts are delicious! Apparently, they only sell East Coast inspired flavors like NY Cheesecake.
5. Five Daughters Baker – Nashville, TN
Morgan checked out this popular bakery while visiting Nashville & couldn’t decide which 100 layer donut to try. The 100 layer donut is a croissant-style donuts. Delish!
6. Sublime Donuts – Atlanta, GA
If clicking through to their website hasn’t convinced you to try these out, we’re not sure what will! They’re known for their filled donuts, so be sure to try a fresh strawberry and cream if you’re ever in Atlanta!
7. Green Bush Bakery – Madison, WI
Another favorite of Cameron’s in-house donut connoisseur. Once again, she recommends getting an old fashioned (her favorite donut), but instead of a classic glazed, switch it up and try the blueberry one!
8. Mr. T’s Delicate Donut Shop – Modesto, CA
A donut shop open 24/7 without a website, sign us up! Apparently, they always manage to have people waiting in line to try one of their famous cronuts!
9. Cardigan Donuts – Minneapolis, MN
Make sure you try their old fashioned, this one is Morgan’s favorite donut shop in the Twin Cities!
10. Dough – Brooklyn, NY
To get a taste of Latin American culture in your doughy treat, make sure to visit Dough and try flavors like passion fruit and dulce de leche!
Might we recommend stocking-up on Donut Shop to pair with all of the donuts you now have to try? Enjoy and don’t get a tummy ache!
